Luke 4: 38-44

Part 1 of the Series


Introduction: Jesus went into the synagogue one Sabbath to teach the people.Those who listened that day were amazed at his teaching because he spoke with authority.The church should be a place where people can gather and hear the word of God proclaimed.Jesus has left that mission for us to accomplish today.†††††††††


I.††††††††††††††††††† The reason people were looking for Jesus.


A.†††† Jesus could heal the sick.†††††††††††††John 5:2-3


B.†††† Jesus could drive out demons. ††††††Mark 5:20


C.†††† Jesus could teach with authority.Matthew 7:28-29


II.†††††††††††††††† The reason Jesus was leaving the city.


A. Jesus wanted some time alone.†††††††Mark 1:35-38


B.†††† Jesus knew why they had come. ††††John 20:17


C.†††† Jesus had a mission to accomplish. Luke 19:10


III.†††††††††††††† The reason the church exists today.


A.†††† We are to proclaim the good news. ††2 Timothy 4:2-4


B.†††† We are to defend the good news.††††Romans 1:16



C.†††† We are to embody the good news. †††1 Peter 3:15-16


†Conclusion: It is easy for a church to get distracted from its primary mission, but we must not let that happen.Jesus shows us here that it is important that we preach the good news to as many people as possible as we await his return.Letís be faithful to the mission by keeping this a place where people can hear the good news.
